"Tiernan Brothers" A family run Angling business catering for Anglers of all abilities and disciplines from all over Ireland and Europe. Based in Foxford "The Capital of the Moy " the Tiernan's have been catering for all the needs of Fishermen for over 140 years. In 1886 Hi Regan wrote in his Book (How and where to Fish in Ireland) that he met with one of the foremost Fly-Tiers in Ireland when he met with Martin Tiernan. Martin was the Great, Great Grand-Father of P.J. & Michael Tiernan, Sons & Nephews of Mike & Paddy Tiernan who ran the Tackle Shop in Foxford and also controlled a section of the River Moy up until the Mid 1970's, when, for many reasons they had to cease business.
Michael & P.J. went on to become Ghillies and Accomplished anglers and in the mid 1990's reopened the tackle shop in Foxford, the Business again began to flourish, and has grown steadily for the past few years.
Today Tiernan Brothers are synonymous with Angling on the River Moy and Angling in general in the Moy Valley. Tiernans Fishing Tackle, based in Foxford, County Mayo is famous for great quality and value fishing tackle. The tackle shop has also become a centre for meeting with Ghillies, checking on water conditions and finding out where is the best place to go. Tiernan Brothers are specialists in Salmon fishing on the River Moy, in the Foxford, Swinford and Ballina region of county Mayo, and Brown Trout fishing on Loughs Conn, Cullin, Mask and Carra.
The river Moy is one of the most prolific Wild Atlantic Salmon Fishing rivers in the world. Anglers from all over the world visit the Moy to try and "land" one of the 8000 Salmon that are Landed Annually. The Moy Estuary also holds a good stock of Sea Trout which can be fished on either Bait (Sandeel / Mackerel Strip) or by the Fly.
